50 gamechangers: Snapshot
Format: PS3, Vita, PC
Developer: Retro Affect
Yet another platformer. Yet another homage to the genre that Shigeru Miyamoto created. In Snapshot one photographs ones environment, all the objects that get stuck in the picture can be teleported to another part of the level. On their website Retro Affect understandably can’t help but point out that a picture is worth so much more than a thousand words.

The idea, like many others on the indie scene, a puzzle platformer; having to solve some sort of puzzle to be able to use the platforms and get further on in the level. It’s usually the puzzle part of the equation that is unique, and Snapshot has a unique mechanic. But a neat mechanic isn’t going to change the world, and while critics seem to agree that it’s a nice looking game with pleasing gameplay they also seem to agree that it’s not outstanding. Metacritic.com averages out on 74 with no particular complaint. It’s good, and worth a look, but it’s just not great.
