50 gamechangers: Prison Architect

Scan of Prison Architect from LeveL #74

Prison Architect

Format: PC
Developer: Introversion
Premiere: N/A

Do not let the crisp graphic and the art direction – like a union between Dwarf FortressCannon Fodder, and Game Dev Story – fool you. Prison Architect is all about managing a prison and its inmates. It’s something as unusual as a with a moral foundation – that builds on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Prepare yourself to feel bad.

Prison Architect still doesn’t have a set release date, and it’s likely it won’t have one for quite some time. But it’s still available for pre-purchase and you can try it right now, because when you put your money down you get to join the alpha. Not the beta, it’s not a matter of ironing out the bugs for a final release, but alpha, as in a lot of features are missing. But the idea, theme and game itself looks like it could be great for those that enjoy business and/or tycoon games. And Introversion Software is one of the most indie indies out there, proudly sporting the motto “The Last of the Bedroom Programmers”. That is, until they actually got an office after their fourth title.
