50 gamechangers: Moebius
Format: PC, Mac
Developer: Pinkerton Road
Jane Jensen – the woman behind the Gabriel Knight-series, Gray Matter and King’s Quest VI – is heading out on new adventures. Moebius has many traits from Gabriel Knight, which could be because Jensen does not own the rights to her old game franchise. But if Moebius becomes successful – something Kickstarter has already guaranteed – she hopes to be able to purchase the licenses from Activision.

While it might look like it’s made in the Sims engine, graphics have never been the important part in Jensen’s games. It can’t be ignored, but most times it takes nothing away from the story, which has always been her strong suit. The game is being published by Phoenix Online Publishing, and as it stands today we don’t have to wait long, as the official website sports a release on April 15, 2014, for PC and Mac, and iOS and Android versions coming soon after that. While the Gabriel Knight franchise is a heavy name to own, we wonder if Jensen really needs it. Understandably she wants to own her IP, but setting up an entirely new franchise on her storytelling prowess should be doable for such a recognized name. If you enjoy games with a lot of story you can not go wrong with her library.
