50 gamechangers: The Banner Saga
The Banner Saga
Format: PC, Mac, iPad, PS3, 360
The viking game The Banner Saga is a combination of turn-based strategy and role play. It’s also one of the this years most beautiful, painstakingly hand drawn in a style that reminds us of Eyvind Earles illustrations in Dinsney’s Sleeping Beauty.
– It’s a game for adults. By that we mean it’s about cultural intrigues och peoples relations, not sex, cursing and violence, says director Alex Thomas.

So far we’ve only seen a release on PC and Mac, but this first part of a planned trilogy has gotten some great reception. Reading the reviews that averaged out to 80 on metacritic.com leads up to believe that the story and battle mechanics are not interesting enough on their own, meaning that people that are interested more in one of the other may not enjoy this title to its full potential. Those that embrace the combination however seem to agree that it’s a title well worth your time. And those that mention the art style seem to be split based on personal preference; some find it great with the rotoscopic animations, while some find the production to be lacking, even for a crowdsourced title.
